Three healthy meals for a child in India
Day 18
School meals for children in India

Ten-year-old Manjula lost her father at an early age and lived with her mother and her 19-year-old disabled brother on the outskirts of the village of Rangavvanahalli in Karnataka, India. Her mother worked as a day laborer. The two children were often left to fend for themselves and did not go to school. A social worker from the Vikasana organization heard of Manjula's fate and offered to take her into Vikasana's bridge school and look after her. The bridge school provides children from poor families with holistic care with the aim of integrating the children into a school. This gives them a chance for a better future. Today, Manjula lives happily with 34 other children in the bridge school. She has blossomed again thanks to the regular supply of nutritious food and has become a good student. Her favorite subject is English.

background

The Indian government has been promoting basic education for children in India for about a decade. However, children living in rural areas of India and whose families are poor are particularly likely to drop out of school before the 8th grade. The children often have to work to help support their families. Their parents often earn no more than 20 euros a month as wage workers.

Children from disadvantaged families are denied access to education. Children who often have to go without adequate and nutritious food also experience cognitive impairments.

Here, the Karl Kübel Foundation, together with its partner, offers disadvantaged children the chance for a self-determined future without poverty through a safe home, regular and healthy meals and access to school.

Day 18 Day 18
The good deed

35 children from extremely poor, socially disadvantaged families currently live and learn at Vikasana's bridge school. They receive comprehensive support, go to school regularly and have time and space to play and discover their talents. Their physical well-being is taken care of through nutritious, varied meals and medical care. Today's donation will support the work of the bridge school.
