Many people who had to leave their homeland because of war want to build a new life in Germany. But they often do not have the opportunity to find work immediately after their arrival. For example, people cannot take up any work in the first three months of their stay and for the time they are in an initial reception center (BMAS, 2019). This is a frustrating experience for many refugees, because they would also like to participate in social life. Volunteering can be an opportunity for people to get involved. In particular, the language skills of many refugees can often be a great advantage in first aid operations. Training as first responders can give refugees the opportunity to get involved for other people in emergency situations.
