Day 14
between rockets and grenades

The conflicts in the Gaza Strip are a recurring topic in our media. The conflict between Israel and Palestine, which has now lasted for almost half a century, repeatedly leads to humanitarian emergencies, especially in the contested areas. Hardly anyone knows that the Gaza Strip consists mainly of sand and dunes and is even slightly smaller than the German state of Bremen. Reports also rarely focus on those who are not responsible for the conflict and who have to grow up in an environment of violence and great insecurity: the children.

background

According to the UN Relief and Works Programme for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), 80% of the inhabitants of the Gaza Strip are dependent on food aid. Since around half of the inhabitants of the Gaza Strip are children (Palestinian Statistical Office), the situation is hitting them particularly hard. Due to import restrictions on everyday goods in the Gaza Strip, food and other consumer goods are difficult to obtain or very expensive. According to a study by the American aid organisation ANERA, many children in the Gaza Strip suffer from chronic consequences of malnutrition such as anemia and stunted growth.

Day 14 Day 14
The good deed

By providing hot school meals, the organization can help the children involved in two ways: firstly, it improves the children's nutrition. Secondly, it gives them the chance to attend school again. Families in the Gaza Strip often cannot afford to send their children to school because the children have to contribute to the family income. However, as soon as they receive a hot meal at school, the incentive for families to send their children to school increases.
