Day 23

An active leisure offer for children in rural Brandenburg

What a circus! What a circus!

An active leisure offer for children in rural Brandenburg
Day 23
Big leaps for children in Brandenburg

Go to school in the morning - and do real circus in the afternoon. That's what the "Juggler Kids" stand for, bringing excitement and variety to the north of Brandenburg. In ten towns and villages, circus training is a popular meeting place for children and young people - especially in places where there are hardly any leisure activities. Experienced acrobats and circus teachers come to places with imaginative ideas and props, where there is usually only a playground or a football pitch. Children learn to ride a unicycle, juggle, do acrobatics, theater, trapeze and much more together. It doesn't matter where they come from, because circus is international! The children communicate in many languages - but also with twinkling eyes, leaps in the air and grins from ear to ear.

background

Due to the poor infrastructure, the remote location and migration, many socially disadvantaged families live in the north of Brandenburg - far from the big cities. The region offers little attractive leisure activities for this target group. This is particularly problematic in the villages: the last bus stops there right after school and children and young people usually have no way of getting to other places.

That is why it is all the more important to create attractive and sustainable offers locally and to bring life to the villages. Exercise and strengthening the self-confidence of children and young people is becoming increasingly important these days. Obesity in children and young people is increasing, and with it the risk of illness and bullying. According to the latest studies, around 120 million children worldwide are overweight (NCD-RisC, 2017). In the jugglers' circus, the children not only lose their pounds, but also their fears. Success and failure are closely linked in training - disappointments and mishaps must be overcome.

The good deed

This good deed means that another acrobatics course can be offered. With its circus education, the association promotes the individual motor, artistic and social skills of every child - regardless of language and origin. In the circus, every child finds a place where they can grow. The children experience how much can be achieved together with joy and guidance during the performances: the participants become young stars. Self-confidence and mental and physical health are strengthened.
