Have you ever wondered why some children fail at school? Why it is difficult for them to learn to read, write and count? Why do they speak less than their classmates when they start school? There can be various reasons why children do poorly at school. Scientific studies show that the first years of a child's life are very important. Children who have contact with books and are read to from the very beginning speak more, remain curious, eager to learn and enjoy discovering. The family is the child's first place of education. If parents regularly read to their children as soon as possible after birth and talk to them about the stories, they are doing something very special: children acquire new vocabulary, learn to express thoughts and feelings, and their imagination and creativity are stimulated. At the beginning, it is touch books and colorful pictures that appeal to children, later great stories and children's book heroes. Reading aloud is also a time that parents spend with children and in which children feel safe.

Unfortunately, there are many families in Germany who do not have children's books at home. According to statistics, one in five children in Germany lives in poverty - a total of almost three million children. In most cases, child poverty leads to educational poverty. Children from financially disadvantaged families perform on average twice as poorly as children whose families do not receive state aid. The connection is simple and at the same time very unfair. For families for whom education is a cost factor, there are Librileo book boxes: because children should have access to books and education, regardless of their parents' income.

The non-profit education program supports families in difficult life situations to actively participate in supporting their children in their early years: reading, talking, playing with them.

The good deed

We support parents in reading to their children. We give them the opportunity to support their children in their early childhood development phase (0 to 6 years) so that they do not show any deficits in reading, language and learning skills at school. We do this with the help of innovative book boxes, which are sent free of charge to families in difficult life situations four times a year and consist of three elements: children's books, games and advice for parents. The book boxes accompany children from birth to the start of school. In this way, language skills and social skills are promoted in a playful and fun way and the parent-child relationship is strengthened. Later, children start school better. Our book boxes work: the evaluation carried out in 2015 showed that 60% of parents actually read significantly more with their children after receiving the book boxes.
